In my last post I discussed ways of avoiding scams to help you find the right Russian or Eastern European bride. In this post, I want to talk about what a Russian woman is looking for, and why she might also be looking to date.

First, it’s important to have some context about why a Russian woman would look for a husband from a different country than her own. The simple answer is that there are not enough “good men” in Russia for each good woman. Alcoholism, dismal health conditions and other reasons have led to a higher female percentage of the population in nearly all of Eastern Europe. This is especially true in older demographics, since men typically pass away in Russia up to 30 years earlier than women! Because marriage is extremely important to Russian, Ukrainian and other Eastern European women, the end result from our perspective is a small, but significant, percentage of highly desirable women who are unsatisfied with their choice of men, and look to other means to find a suitable husband. Just like you, these women are “casting a wider net” to find the right partner.
Why the West? The stereotype of the Western man in Russia is actually quite positive (at least from a woman’s perspective): European, American and Canadian men are thought to be more gentlemanly, courteous and caring. They are hard workers and provide for their families. A Russian woman might sometimes complain that back home she would be married to a man that drinks too much and has mistresses on the side. Whether true or not, this is the stereotype of the Russian husband that she is trying to avoid. Many Eastern European countries, including Latvia, Ukraine, Romania and even Russia, have limited career opportunities, particularly for women, no matter a woman’s talent, education or beauty.
A related question I often receive is, “Do Russian brides only want to marry Americans?” Actually, the answer is no. On these web sites, we often generalize by saying that “Russian” women want to marry “Americans” but in truth an Eastern European bride is open to marriage and life in Canada, Western Europe and other places around the world. She is a strong woman who is ready to pick up her life and move it wherever things will be better for her and her new family. In fact, Russian ladies who are particularly close to their families often prefer living in Europe, which makes it easier to visit relatives.
