IMBRA makes online dating safer for Russian brides

If you’re into dating online, you will probably already know to watch out for online dating scams that you could run into. On the other hand it is true that most of the men who use online dating services do have genuine intentions, but women also run the risk of meeting up with a guy who does not mean well.

In order to help protect foreign women and make the international match making process more transparent, the United States passed the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act (IMBRA) in 2005. The IMBRA law obliges online dating sites based in the US to ask all male clients for detailed background information like criminal records, marital history and status, divorces, number of children, and so on. This information is then passed on to the Russian women and other foreign women you contact, so that they can make an better informed decision about whom they wish to pursue a relationship with.

At the same time, if you are a US citizen, you must make sure that you always deal with an IMBRA compliant online dating agency when looking for the Russian woman of your dreams. This is because, under the IMBRA law, one of the requirements for getting a visa to bring your Russian bride home to the United States is to be able to show that she had access to all your personal background information right from the start of the relationship. This requirement applies whether you use an online dating agency that is based in the US or not.

At first, many online dating agencies were afraid that the IMBRA legislation would put a dent in their business, but time has shown that their worries were unfounded. In fact, in the long run, IMBRA has actually helped make online dating safer for men too, because it deters some of the online dating scammers who do not want to bother with the extra steps needed and move to non-IMBRA compliant dating sites.

While IMBRA may seem like unnecessary red tape when you are eager to open an online dating account, we are sure you will understand the need to safeguard foreign women and protect them as much as possible. We fully support this move and believe that foreign women have the right to as much information as possible about their future husbands. Deciding to marry and move to another country is not an easy decision for a Russian woman, and any serious woman worth your while will not be taking it lightly. For this reason, honesty and transparency are the key to a sincere and lasting relationship, and this is what the IMBRA law is out to achieve.

I like your blog post on this new law. I think this law is important and a good thing and protects these so-called mail order brides to some degree from bad men.

I recently saw an article where Alec Baldwin had been on the David Letterman show and was asked about haviing more children. He said something to the degress that “maybe he should find a Filipina or Russian mail order bride to expand his family and have more children”. Apparently this didn’t go over to big in the Philippines and some officials made some comments to the effect “he would like to hit him in the head”.

The article went on to say their are laws in the Philippines against mail order bride agencies. They couldn’t be too strict because companies are offering “romance tours” to the Philippines now. The fact is much of the income for the Filipino people comes from these brides working over seas and sending money home to their families. Many families would have far less if not for the money sent to them.

I don’t see a thing wrong with seearching for love in another country as long as you are willing to travel to that country and meet the family of the woman you are interested in. Spend some time and get to know the girl and her to know you!

These women are now more protected thanks to the IMBRA law since vital information has to be disclosed before you can bring a bride back to the USA. Of course they may not be protected if they choose an Australian man. I’m not sure about the laws in other countries.
