All about the fiancée visa for Russian brides

by Editor on February 18, 2010

Not surprisingly, after my last post about Russian brides coming to America, I’ve been inundated with questions about how it all works. Here’s a few questions and answers to help!

Q: I’ve been writing to a Russian girl on a Russian singles site for a while. Can she get a visa to come visit me?

It’s not easy for her to come visit you. The visa process for a young, single Russian woman to come to the United States (or the EU) is expensive, lots of trouble, and pretty arbitrary. If she owns a lot of property in Russia and has a great job, she might stand a chance. Otherwise, you can expect your Russian girlfriend’s visa to be denied on first sight. This is because way too many Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian and other Eastern Europeans have come on tourist visas and remained illegally. Even a student or work visa can take months to process and are routinely denied even after paying the pricey application fee. Let’s face it: as long as the average Russian woman earns $100/month, this isn’t going to happen.

Q: So what do I do?

Simple: you go visit her! These days, we have to consider ourselves lucky that we can even meet beautiful Russian singles on the Internet. Foreign dating by e-mail is simple enough, but one day you will want to meet. You can do this buy vacationing in Russia or Ukraine, or by taking a romance tour. These are often a safer way to travel because everything is organized for you, including your visa to Russia, and in case it doesn’t work out, you get to meet lots of other beautiful, single Russian ladies!

Q: Can my Russian girlfriend and I meet somewhere “neutral”?

Yes, of course. If you are planning to meet for the first time, the simplest way is to go somewhere that neither of you needs a visa. There are plenty of beautiful islands in the Caribbean that do not require visas for Russians or Americans.

Q: But I want to marry this girl and bring her home. How do I do that?

There is only one legal way, and that is the fiancé(e) visa. Beware that this is a time-consuming step, and I recommend it only once you are 100% positive about your decision. Check the US immigration website which is now part of Homeland Security for details.

I hope that answers all your questions about Russian brides and fiancé(e) visas! Keep them coming!
